| ABOUT THIS AREA Beljanica Mountain belongs to the mountain range of the Carpato-Balkanides. It is one of the largest karst areas in Serbia. The mountain is mostly covered by beech and oak forest and grass vegetation. Due to its limestone composition it is very reach with caves (more than 150) and other karst forms. The mountain plateau ranges at the altitudes from 1000 to 1300m above see level. |

Resava gorge is an absolutely superb area of limestone cliffs with
numerous caves. Impressive gorge has an ideal trails for hiking and mountain
biking. The Resavska Cave is the first cave to be prepared for visits
in Serbia. The length of the cave totals to 2,850 meters and the tourist
paths is 800 m long. The air temperature is 14 0C and the average humidity
75%-80%. |
The Resavska Cave consists of three floors
of passages and halls connected by artificial tunnels and decorated by pillars
and coral-like calcite deposits in various colors. Only parts of the first and
second floors (Upper and Lower Gallery) have been prepared for visits. An
underground river flows through the lowest floor (Third Gallery). The visitor to
Resava can tour its numerous halls with different cave ornaments. The cave is
very rich in cave ornaments of various shapes and colors and is richer than
other tourist caves in the concentration of its decorations.

The Manasija monastery was
founded by Despot Stefan Lazarevic. The church, dedicated to the Holy
Trinity, was erected and painted between 1407 and 1418. The monastery is
surrounded by massive walls and towers. |

TOUR SCHEDULE WALKERS Saturday and Sunday: |
Option 2:
Resava Cave and Klocanica Gorge. Breakfast at 8:30am.
After breakfast we will hike over the mountain to reach Resava Cave. Totasl
hike is about 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours (there is a option to go by bus to the
cave). One needs about 40 minutes to visit the cave. After visiting the cave
we will take a bit longer but very scenic path to the hotel. It will take us
on the plateau above the cave. There we will set up a picnic lunch. From
plateau will drop down to the Gorge of Klocanica river. Following river we
will come back to the hotel. Total hike from the cave to hotel will last
about 4 hours. Dinner at 7:30pm.
Option 3: This tour requires a short car/ van
ride to reach the village Dvoriste- our tour starting point. Following Reasava
river we will hike to Monastery Manasija.
CYCLISTS
| Saturday and Sunday: Tour 1: Manasija Loop. Our tour starts from the hotel. We will take a small local road and ride to Despotovac town and Monastery Manasija. After visiting Manasija we ride back other way. Total distance 46km. Tour 2: Mini bus transfer to reach suitable starting point. Downhill ride to 14th century Monastery Ravanica. Visit monastery. Cycling to Cuprija town. Lunch in Cuprija on boat restaurant on the Morava river. Optional cycling to Despotovac/ Lisine or bus transfer to Lisine. Total distance 24km (plus 23/ 46km optional) Tour 3: We will take 35km long van ride to reach a suitable starting point. You will enjoy a scenic forest road which will turn into a dirt road that follows river Klocanica. Road is in good condition so you can easily move 30 km/h. At the end of day we will visit Resava Cave. Total distance 50km. |

WHAT TO BRING: Walkers We suggest to bring with you: comfortable hiking shoes (waterproofed if possible), winter and rain jacket, comfortable pants, gloves, cap, few pairs of socks, SP cream (sun protection), sun glasses, water bottle, small daily backpack, lunch for Saturday (sandwich, pastry...) Cyclists We suggest to bring with you: comfortable bicycling and walking shoes , cycling pants and gloves, rain jacket, bicycle helmet, cap or sun hat, few pairs of socks, SP cream (sun protection), sun glasses, water bottle, small daily backpack. |
