is the highest mountain in Bulgaria and Balkan Peninsula (Moussala peak - 2925
m). Other name of this magnificent mountain is "Water Mountain". There
are the springs of three biggest Bulgarian rivers: Marica, Iskr and Mesta. Rila
has more than 140 brilliantly
blue lakes. With its forests, mountain peaks, lakes, valleys and rivers, Rila is
a ideal place for hiking, mountain climbing and skiing. Only 70 km from
Bulgarian capital Sofia is a beautiful mountain town and ski resort - Borovets.
| The vegetation in Rila is quite varied (2000 species). In the lowest regions xerotherm beech forests prevail, up to an altitude of 1600 m - durmast, black pine, beech, fir tree, aspen, birch, in the coniferous zone - forests of spruce, silver pine, white fir and mixed coniferous forests, in the sub-alpine zone - pine-scrub, in the alpine zone - alpine herbaceous vegetation. |  |
The animal world of Rila constitutes deer, red deer, wild goats and boars, bears, squirrels, eagles, falcons, hawks, wood-grouses, etc. In rivers and lakes trout breeds. A large part of the mountain is included in Rila National Reserve. The biosphere reserves Central Rila Reserve and Parangalitsa (spruce, firtree, and juniper) are here. |
| Some days we will start to hike from Borovets and another ones require a van ride to reach suitable starting point. There are always possibilities to choose longer or shorter walking tour – from 3 to 10 hours. We will hike to peaks ranged from 2100 to 2925 meters above see level - Moussala peak, Sokolec, Yastrebec, by the Marica river, lakes and streams, peaks of Maljovica and visit Monastery Rilski. |  |

of Borovets resort in the midst of age-old pine woods in the Rila mountain,
hidden from the daily noise and commotion, at an altitude of 1350 m. Villa has
five bedrooms, three bathrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, sauna for 8
persons, two fireplaces, local heating system, big garden.

Tour Schedule
Day 1
Arrival in Borovec and meet your trip leader. This afternoon we will do short hiking and have opportunity have first contact with Rila mountain.
Day 2
To prepare yourself for hiking to Musala peak, today we will do beautiful hike through pine forest and via mountain hut "Cakr Vojovoda" we will come to Satr peak (2495m over sea level).
Day 3
A bit northern of Borovec we will take cable, which will bring us underneath of Jastrebec peak. From there we will hike up to the highest point on Balkan Peninsula. Musala (2925 m) is the highest peak in this part of Europe. Surrounded with lakes, this magnificent rocky peak represent one of the most spectacular and exciting peak in Balkan. On the way back we will follow stream of Bistrica that will lead us back to Borovec.
Day 4
One more day we will start daily hike from Borovec. Today we will reward ourselves with relaxing hiking - exploring surrounding area of Borovec, walking to "Orlovi Skali" (Eagle Rock) and Sokolec peak.
Day 5
We will take a ride to Maljovica area on the west. There we will start our hike over mountain ridge and at the afternoon we will rich our daily destination - the most famous Bulgarian monastery - Rilski. We will spend a few hours in monastery and afterwards take a ride back to Borovec and our villa.
Day 6
Today we will spend day in Maljovica again. We will explore local mountain peaks, lakes and mountain streams.
Day 7
Shorter hike to Sumnatica and afternoon depart from Borovec.
